The Indo-Pacific Mosaic:
Comprehensive Security Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific

As part of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies 30th Anniversary, the Center created this publication, “The Indo-Pacific Mosaic: Comprehensive Security Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific,” to capture the essence of its three decades of dedication to building a more secure and collaborative Indo-Pacific region. This book explores the Center’s unique approach to fostering dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among diverse nations, and its enduring impact on regional security.

I authored the chapter in this book, entitled New Zealand’s pandemic response: A model for climate crisis management. My chapter examines how New Zealand’s COVID-19 response offers valuable lessons for climate crisis preparedness. Drawing on public health strategy, governance coordination, and Indigenous knowledge, I argue that integrated, inclusive approaches can strengthen national resilience against complex, transboundary threats.

From Romania to the Stars:
My Conversation on the
Space Madness Podcast

In June, I had the pleasure of joining Jeff Nosanov as a guest on his podcast, Space Madness. In this episode, I share my journey from growing up in communist Romania to working at NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and conducting Fulbright-funded research on climate security in the Danube Delta. We talked about space exploration, the importance of bridging science and governance, and the role personal passion plays in shaping a career. I reflected on my experiences across multiple NASA centers and the ongoing challenge of communicating research findings across disciplines and audiences.
